D-8 Trauma Informed Approaches in Classrooms and Schools
Jacqueline Khalil (Toronto Catholic District School Board)TBD
This workshop will provide educators with a deeper understanding of trauma and the effect it has on students. Participants will examine ways a trauma informed approach can be implemented and utilized to foster a safe, identity-affirming learning environment for all students. We will explore ways in which trauma responses can be masked by disengagement, withdrawal, classroom outbursts, aggression, and behavioral challenges. We will look at strategies that can be implemented within the classroom and school to gain a deeper understanding of students and improve student engagement, motivation, and behavior.
